Class of '50 Dinner in NYC

February 11, 2008

Dear Classmate:

Not only are we having our annual New York City dinner on May 2, as
announced earlier, but we have a speaker whose field of athletics is very much in the headlines these days: Jim Knowles ’87, head coach of football at Cornell since 2004.

Knowles was an all-Ivy defensive end as an undergraduate in I&LR, and
after graduation had coaching positions at Cornell, Mississippi, and Western Michigan before returning to the Hill. Known as a defensive specialist, he had success at each of his coaching stops, Cornell included.

What makes Jim especially topical today is the health, legal and public attention being paid to the use of steroids and growth hormones among athletes from high school to the college, pro, and international levels.

Jim and his wife, Nancy Schlie ’83. MBA ’89, have a daughter and two sons.
We understand Coach Knowles is a fine speaker and, of course a Cornellian.

Dave and Susan Dingle will be with us for a Cornell sing along at the conclusion of the diner and the program. Plus, our own Howie Heinsius will stir our memories with his historic performance of “The Evening Song”. What a wonderful way for “The Class of the Century” to conclude our evening in NYC.

Charge for the dinner at the Cornell Club will be $85 per person. If you plan to attend, please send a check payable to Stan Rodwin at P. O. Box 904, Scottsville, NY 14546. If you have any questions, call Stan at 585-889-3180 or e-mail: rodpkg@frontiernet.net. The Cornell Club of New York is at 6 E. 44th Street.

Let us know your plans by returning the mailed postcard or via email.

Hoping you’ll join us there,

Dick, Jo, John and Stan
