Letter from the Class President
Fall 2009
Re: Class Dues – 2009-2010
Dear Classmate:
1. 2009-10 Class Dues. As we start toward our 60th (!) Reunion in June
2010, I must notify you that it is now time to pay your Class dues
(and thus receive
your subscription to Cornell Alumni Magazine). Enclosed are sign-up
materials.
2. Reasons. As you know, dues are the primary source of revenue for
our
class. The dues that you pay cover the costs of class newsletters,
regional events, student reading projects, subscriptions to Cornell
Alumni Magazine, and all the other
charges related to running a class.
3. Benefits. The Alumni Office reminds you that when you pay your class
dues, you get your subscription to Cornell Alumni Magazine as usual,
plus exciting
benefits of the Class Dues Payer Rewards Program. The Rewards Program
offers
access to price discounts at a variety of Cornell-related and non-related
businesses,
including the Cornell Athletic Ticket Office, Johnson Museum of Art,
Cornell Robert
Trent Jones Golf Course, and Experience! The Finger Lakes tours, among
many others.
For a full review of the Rewards Program please visit www.alumni.cornell.edu/
classes.
4. 2008-09 Results. Sorry to say, this last year we missed our goal
of 475
dues payers by 17: we had 458 members of the class who paid their Class
dues (96%
of the goal). For the forthcoming year we have set the goal at 460.
(Altogether our
Class has 1108 living mailable alumni.)
5. Class Dinners. Our New York and Philadelphia Class Dinners were
very
successful this last Spring.
For this coming year, however, there are changes:
(a) The venue for the CACO meetings has been changed from Philadelphia
to Washington, DC. Thus, we are planning a dinner for members of the
Class of 1950
on the evening of Friday, January 29, 2010 at the Washington Marriott
Wardman Park
Hotel.
(b) There will be no Class of 1950 dinner in New York next Spring.
6. Book Project. You may recall that in my letter to the Class of 1950 dated
February 10, 2009
I said that “we will send a free copy (of Grapes of Wrath) to every
dues payng member of our Class who
affirmatively requests a copy,” and enclosed a form for making such
a request. We are again making that
offer (see enclosed form) in light of the attached Alumni Office commentary
on the book.
7. Reunion (June 10-13, 2010). Early this Fall you will
be hearing from Reunion Co-Chairs Stan Rodwin and Jane McGonigal, along
with John Marcham, with regard to Reunion. Remember, the Class
of the Century (1950) wants to beat the 60th Reunion record turnout
(126, by the Class of 1944)!
Sincerely yours,
Dick Pogue,
Class President
